Durbin's "Apology" (aka non-retraction)

Senator Durbin took another stab at pretending to apologize yesterday. He is not apologizing for comparing treatment of unlawful combatant prisoners by the US Military to treatment by the Nazi's, Pol Pot or the Gulag. What he's apologizing to is what he calls 'crossing the line'. How about an apology for feeding propaganda to Al Jazeera and every other anti-American media outlet on the planet. What is really irritating me now is that all of the media ninny's out there are headlining this as Durbin's apology, well that should be the end of it then. Right? He apologized, but No.He.Didn't! Aside from the theatrics and political pandering of Durbin you would think this man could muster up a shred of respect and decency for our US Military members currently deployed to war zones that he's sorry to have possibly caused a danger to them with his careless and inflamatory words.

Here's the transcript from The Political Teen who also has the video of the "apology":

Some may believe my remarks crossed the line. To them I extend my heartfelt apologies. There’s usually a quote by Abraham Lincoln that you can turn to in moments like this. Maybe this is the right one. Lincoln said “If the end brings me out right what is set against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong ten thousand angels swarming at his right won’t make any difference.” In the end I don’t want anything in my public career to detract from my love of this country, my respect for those who serve it, and this great Senate. I offer my apologies for those who were offended by my words, I promise you that I will continue to speak out on the issues I think are important to the people of Illinois and to the Nation. Mr. President I yield to the floor.

This is just a ruse to get those gullible enough to believe Durbin really cares about our fighting forces (well at least maybe for those in his state who might vote for him?). This is just another regurgitation of his other non-apology.

Update:
For those interested be sure to go read Hugh Hewitt's post today. There's quotes from Nancy Pelosi, The Internation Herald Tribune (saying The United States is a criminal state), Al Jazeera quoting lawyers for innocent detainees....proclaiming savage abuse. Durbin's foul mouth has opened the floodgates for the anti-American screeds. The Democrats just keep sinking lower into the morass as time goes on.
