Capt. Rogelio Maynulet - Update on Court Martial

My Way News

Some of these court martials are starting to look like there is more concern for the terrorists than the soldiers.

Capt. Rogelio Maynulet is charged with assault with intent to commit murder in the May 21, 2004, killing near Kufa, south of Baghdad. Prosecutors say he vviolated the Army's rules of engagement by shooting the Iraqi while he was unarmed and injured.

Maynulet, 30, of Chicago, has pleaded not guilty. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Looks like video from a drone is the primary witness to this event.

Video from a U.S. drone surveillance aircraft showed the outline of a soldier in a helmet and battle gear, identified by a witness as Maynulet, aiming a weapon at an Iraqi man lying on the ground, followed by a flash.

Maynulet's company had been on patrol when it was alerted to a car thought to be carrying a driver for radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and another militiaman loyal to the cleric. They chased the vehicle and fired at it, wounding both the passenger, who fled and was later apprehended, and the driver.

In further testimony Tuesday, two Iraqis who worked with Maynulet during his deployment to Iraq described him as compassionate and spoke of his helpfulness to civilians and Iraqi soldiers training for the civilian defense corps.

........The U.S. military has referred to the Iraqi driver only as an "unidentified paramilitary member," but relatives named him as Karim Hassan, 36. The family does not dispute that he was working for al-Sadr.

I'm wondering how WWII, Korean or Viet Nam War Vets would have withstood the scrutiny of today using a drone video?

Update: 3/31/05 -U.S. soldier convicted in Iraqi killing

WIESBADEN, Germany (AP) -- A military court on Thursday found a U.S. Army tank company commander guilty of charges related to the shooting death of a wounded Iraqi last year.

Capt. Rogelio "Roger" Maynulet stood at attention as Lt. Col. Laurence Mixon, the head of the six-member panel, read the verdict.
The court was to reconvene later Thursday to consider Maynulet's sentence. The charge -- assault with intent to commit voluntary manslaughter -- carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.

This is truly a sad day.

Go look at the most recent posting on Cpt. Maynulet.

Bottom-Feeding Protestors Vandalize Medal of Honor Monument

Froggy Ruminations: Scum sucking sack of $hit

Here's an example of the true colors of the protestors and anti-war/peacelovers. These people are a) trying to relive the 60's or b) trying to emulate the law breaking, disrespectful actions of the people of the 60's. They are pathetic and beneath contempt.

Wednesday seemed like a normal spring day at the Canal Walk. But for visitors to the Medal of Honor memorial, a dirty secret marred an otherwise beautiful place, where vandals did a lot of damage.

Glass panels on the monument were smashed early Tuesday morning. Obscene words about President Bush and Gov. Daniels, along with peace symbols were spray-painted on canal walls.

Ann Coulter causes stir at KU : Ann Coulter causes stir at KU

Hahah...wish I could've been there, sounds like a fun time. And all those liberals were crying and whining like big slobbery babies. The comments online from the juvenile libs talks about how it's all about money for Coulter, course they neglect to mention how much money Michael Moore gets for his appearances and I believe his fee is significantly higher than Coulters. At the very least, Ann Coulter is pleasing to the eye unlike the 400lb gorilla called Michael Moore.

More proof that liberals only want free speech when they agree with the speech.

Recent Hmong Refugee Murders Fiance (She won't Marry Him 'cause he's got Hepatitis B!)

Fiance's stress over breakup led to fatal stabbing, police say

Aside from the persistent violence in the Hmong community the most striking part about this article from the Strib (of which the Strib casually mentions) is:

The young couple had an arranged marriage in a Thai refugee camp, but things soured when they emigrated to the Twin Cities last fall.

Vou Xiong, 27, had tested positive for hepatitis B, and Mai Yia Lee, 22, no longer wanted to marry him. Her family concurred.

Do you get this? This man was among the refugees admitted to the US from a refugee camp last fall with his having Hepititis B! I thought there was screening so refugees with communicable diseases were not admitted to the country! Guess there aren't enough problems with the resurrgence of TB by refugees, they are now bringing in this.

In general, hepatitis B is more serious than hepatitis A and is occasionally fatal, especially in older people or after a blood transfusion, and can be mild or full-blown (fulminant).

Hepatitis B is less easily transmitted than hepatitis A. One mode of transmission, now rare in the United States, is through contaminated blood.

Hepatitis B is also spread through contact with saliva, tears, breast milk, urine, vaginal fluid, and semen. Transmission commonly occurs between sex partners, both heterosexual and male homosexual. Also at increased risk are people in closed environments, because body fluid contact is more likely. A pregnant woman infected with hepatitis B can transmit the virus to her baby during birth.

Crowd Control and much more

This is Your War: Crowd Control

Red2Alpha has a posting which covers a wide range of emotions. He even has a funny posting about Boomers. The crowd control portion does draw you into his story and is very compelling. But here's the part that gave me a chuckle:

QUESTION AUTHORITY. I hate that bumper sticker, left over relic from the 60's. Look, the 60's are over. There is no more Wood Stock or Love In's, no more Hippy buses. It's done. Your time is past. My generation, Gen X, was taught by the old Hippies in school and found your ways wanting, old, tired. I don't care how you dropped acid in the Redwoods and discovered yourself. War, poverty, violence, and hunger will not be stopped with protest marches, smoking the crazy ganja and fucking a hairy legged chick that smells of patruli oil.
QUESTION AUTHORITY. Authority is the thing that kicks your ass when you don’t obey the rules, I tell my wife.

UN SECOND Interim Report from Roger L Simon

Roger L. Simon: SECOND Interim Report

Roger is reading the report released yesterday on the UNSCAM. The level and depth of corruption within this organization is beyond my scope of understanding. Just as the criminal behavior within Enron, Global Crossing and Worldcom made the headlines over and over again, the UNSCAM dwarfs in dollars all of those combined and yet what are you seeing on your major media news outlets? Has the hysterical fever pitch of the corporate scandals hit with any news organization like Abu Ghraib - nope. See this doesn't fit the liberal media ideal. This is the UN and afterall the UN couldn't possibly do wrong, only right of center or conservatives or evangelicals or the military or George Bush are worthy of exscoriation.

Here's part of what Roger has found:
Reading the report, you come to the conclusion that in a normal (non-UN) situation many of the people involved would quite simply go to jail, but here there is no apparent jurisdiction.

Those who will still defend Kofi will have explain why the Sec'y General lied or "misspoke" to the committee when he said he had never met Elie Massey, the head of Cotecna, before that rather ethically-challenged company got the Oil-for-Food contract. According to the interim report,(p. 45 and thereabouts) Kofi's own personal computer recorded two such meetings. The Sec'y General is evidently a forgetful man. He forgot he had lunch with his own son and Mouselli in Durban (also documented). Is this a case of like son like father or the other way around. Or is just the son really corrupt? Perhaps we will never know. But does it matter? What matters is change at the UN. Immediate change. I don't care if Kofi Annan is depressed. He doesn't get my sympathy. The innocent people of Darfur get my sympathy. Those Iraqi children who didn't get the Oil-for-Food money that was skimmed get my sympathy.

Be sure to check back with Roger as he reads through the whole report.

New Afghan Blogger - - - Waheed

Waheed started the blog Afghan Warrior. He is working as an interpreter and Tom Villars and Paul Edwards helped him out. I had no idea how expensive it was for Waheed to get an internet connection besides using an internet cafe. At least that's what I think he's using. He's got a paypal set up now and if you can throw him some assistance I'm sure he would be very appreciative.

I haven't seen any Afghan bloggers like we saw with the Iraqi's so go check out what Waheed has to say and give him some words of support and encouragement.

Women Gone Mad (as in Nuts, Crazy, Loony, Need a Lobotomy)

Mike S. Adams: My sexual harassment complaint

Where exactly do these women come from? I don't know and to be honest don't know any women like this. The double standard exhibited with this email is staggering. If a heterosexual male had written this email replacing the female body references with male body references the student would be expelled. I thought that nutty young women went the way of Germain Greer! This email is positively bizarre. I mean the girl talks about her internal body organs like it's a person, in fact her. This is just too weird.

Here's the email:
"From: Raab, Rebecca R.
Sent: Sat 3/26/2005 5:22 PM
To: Adams, Mike
Subject: My Vagina's Very Mad at You

Dr. Dr. (sic) Adams

'Vagina' and 'C***' are just words. The purpose of the Vagina Monologues is to unite women in a society which, from your article is obviously still 'male' centered. I can't believe that you are a professor of criminal justice and you yourself can't understand what the Vagina Monologues does for women, specifically women who have been victims of rape and other sexual violence. It's people like you who make it so hard for women to except their bodies. The point of Eve Ensler's book is to expose a subject that women have always had to cover up, our vaginas, our logos. Vaginas are a place of pleasure and pain. So many women hate their vaginas and ultimately themselves from experiences of rape and sexual violence. I read your article and was absolutely shocked. Is this the first time you have heard of the VM? I mean it has been around, around UNCW for that matter, for several years. We didn't make this stuff up. It was written by Eve Ensler!!! Read it before you start making accusations. And for that matter, I'll have you know that President Bush wasn't even mentioned once during any of our meetings. We don't have a political agenda in presenting the VMs. The only Bush discussed in this play were our own!!! Also, people talk about men and their penises all the time. Like when a man 'thinks with his other head' (I think you must because for someone with a PhD, you sure do have (sic) closed mind)

I would like you to know that I'm the girl who performed the 'Vagina Workshop'. If you came to see it, I was the woman parading around in the Tutu. You see, I'm proud to have been a part of this performance and what it does for women. I'm not a bra burning, anti-Bush feminist. Actually I'm not even a Democrat. I support the President, (sic) I support my country totally for that matter. What I don't support is people who don't support women. My vagina could care less about politics; all it wants is to not be raped and be treated kindly. I know that you must know that 1 in 4 women will be victims of sexual violence. Also, bringing religion into this is just so, so wrong. If people are offended because of a word that explains a body part, that is their own problem. I'm a Religion major and I have not once come across a passage in the Bible that states 'Thou shalt not write or speak the words Vagina, P****, and C***!' I think that Jesus would embrace a play whose purpose was to STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN !!!!!!!!! Even if it does talk about SEX.

So, please try to embrace the VMs and not bash it. It's a good thing, its (sic) not anti-religious, anti-Bush, or anti-male, it's just anti-rape and anti-hate. As Eve Ensler states 'Until the Violence Stops'

Rebecca Raab"

So, if I'm to understand this correctly, if I believe the play VM is a stupid display then I'm anti-women. Right? That seems to be what this deranged young woman is saying. Hmmm. Mike Adams' response is great with a touch of humor.

Update: Cross Posted at Outside The Beltway Traffic Jam

Now I Know Why John Bolton is the Right Person as the UN Ambassador.

59 Ex-Diplomats Oppose Nominee (

If there are 59 former American diplomats against Bolton, then he's who I want to be the Ambassador to the UN. As far as I'm concerned this is the group who forgot American diplomats are in foreign countries to promote American interests, they think it's to mold American interests to foreign countries needs.

Challenging the White House, 59 former American diplomats are urging the Senate to reject John R. Bolton's nomination to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

"He is the wrong man for this position," they said in a letter to Sen. Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Lugar has scheduled hearings on Bolton's nomination for April 7.

"We urge you to reject that nomination," the former diplomats said in a letter obtained by the Associated Press.

The ex-diplomats have served in both Democratic and Republican administrations, some for long terms and others briefly. They include Arthur A. Hartman, ambassador to France and the Soviet Union under presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan and assistant secretary of state for European affairs under President Richard M. Nixon.

Others who signed the letter include Princeton N. Lyman, ambassador to South Africa and Nigeria under presidents Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton; Monteagle Stearns, ambassador to Greece and Ivory Coast in the Ford, Carter and Reagan administrations; and Spurgeon M. Keeny Jr., deputy director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency in the Carter administration.

Their criticism dwelled primarily on Bolton's stand on issues as the State Department's senior arms control official. They said he had an "exceptional record" of opposing U.S. efforts to improve national security through arms control.

The former diplomats also chided Bolton for his "insistence that the U.N. is valuable only when it directly serves the United States." That view, they said, would not help him negotiate with other diplomats at the United Nations.

Adam Ereli, the State Department's deputy spokesman, responded: "He is a great nominee. We hope he will be confirmed. And we look forward to his getting to New York to do the nation's business."

Judges & Creditors Ignoring Laws for Active-Duty Soldiers

The New York Times > National > Some Creditors Make Illegal Demands on Active-Duty Soldiers

You tell me with a straight face that there is no problem with Judges ignoring the laws (read: activist judges)! Whether talking about judges, mortgage companies or lending institutions, this problem should be dealt with swifty (well, that's kinda a laugh since it's been 3 years already) and decisively. Judges who ignore the law should be fined and put on suspension for the first offense and unseated for any further offenses. Other institutions should be fined to equal to double the amount owed to the institution. That is the only way to insure compliance. Punitive measures will definitely help these institutions to learn the law. When money is involved they usually learn real fast.

The law, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, protects all active-duty military families from foreclosures, evictions and other financial consequences of military service. The Supreme Court has ruled that its provisions must "be liberally construed to protect those who have been obliged to drop their own affairs to take up the burdens of the nation."

The relief act provides a broad spectrum of protections to service members, their spouses and their dependents. The interest rate on debts incurred before enlistment, for example, must be capped at 6 percent if military duty has reduced a service member's family income.

The law also protects service members from repossession or foreclosure without a court order. It allows them to terminate any real estate lease when their military orders require them to do so. And it forbids judges from holding service members in default on any legal matter unless the court has first appointed a lawyer to protect their interests.

At Fort Hood, Tex., a soldier's wife was sued by a creditor trying to collect a debt owed by her and her husband, who was serving in Baghdad at the time. A local judge ruled against her, saying she had defaulted, even though specialists say the relief act forbids default judgments against soldiers serving overseas and protects their spouses as well.

At Camp Pendleton, Calif., more than a dozen marines returned from Iraq to find that their cars and other possessions had been improperly sold to cover unpaid storage and towing fees. The law forbids such seizures without a court order.

In northern Ohio, Wells Fargo served a young Army couple with foreclosure papers despite the wife's repeated efforts to negotiate new repayment terms with the bank. Wells Fargo said later that it had been unaware of the couple's military status. The foreclosure was dropped after a military lawyer intervened.

There are more examples, go read the story and be sure to educate anyone you know who is deployed or about to be deployed about their rights!

MS-13 Gang (terrorists) to target Minuteman vigil on Mexico border

Jihad Watch: MS-13 Gang will target Minuteman vigil on Mexico border

If by chance you have not heard about this gang then you should become informed. They are terrorists who have no qualms on killing, mutilating and executing people. About a week ago 100 of them were rounded up but due to "Border Insecurity" that isn't a problem, there are more to replace the 100.

The MS-13 gang has established major smuggling operations in several areas along the U.S.-Mexico border and have transported hundreds of Central and South Americans -- including gang members -- into the United States in the past two years. The gang also is involved in drug and weapons smuggling.

Gang members in America have been tied to numerous killings, robberies, burglaries, carjackings, extortion, rapes and aggravated assaults. Authorities said that the gang has earned a reputation from the other street gangs as being particularly ruthless and that it will retaliate violently when challenged.

The MS-13 gang, with 20,000 members nationwide, has risen in recent months to such prominence that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, has begun a nationwide crackdown on gang members in this country -- as part of a sweeping law-enforcement initiative known as Operation Community Shield.

23-Ton Buffalo IED Hunter

DefendAmerica News - Buffalo Joins Brigade Combat Team Arsenal

Saw this on Blackfive. Wow, you've got to check out what this piece of heavy duty equipment can do! Looks pretty impressive.

It is a heavily-armored vehicle designed for route clearance, giving patrols a closer look at suspected improvised explosive devices. This way it can be confirmed that an improvised explosive devices is present before bringing an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team onto the scene.
The Buffalo seats six, with the driver and operator at the front and the four remaining soldiers behind them designated for “eyes.” The crew is seated about 10 to 12 feet off of the ground and will also have access to an extra set of searchlights that are maneuvered from inside the vehicle. With the lights, the camera, and the 30- foot “arm,” they will be able to search anywhere they feel there is a threat.

Fort Bragg Officer's Hiccups, Death A Mystery - News - Fort Bragg Officer's Hiccups, Death A Mystery

Saw this on Drudge. These kinds of stories about troop deaths from an unknown illness/cause always give me pause. One of my concerns is that the Military medical didn't fail these people. After the story about the SF in Afghanistan who got chronic wasting disease and was misdiagnosed repeatedly by the Military Medical system, dishonorably discharged and the subsequent rescinding of the discharge due to a correct diagnosis. But it was his family that made all of that happen.

Capt. Wright's death follows the deaths of two North Carolina soldiers who died after returning from the Middle East and experiencing flu-like symptoms.

State epidemiologist Jeffrey Engel said the deaths of Special Forces Capt. Gilbert A. Munoz and Army Staff Sgt. Christopher L. Rogers, a reservist, were related only in their timing.

Munoz, 29, appears to have had a bacterial infection and the flu, Engel said. He died of pneumonia Feb. 9. Rogers, 37, died on Feb. 14, just two days after he began feeling ill, his wife said.

President George Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Bush:

We the undersigned, being citizens of the United States, respectfully ask that you and your administration provide more resources to protecting the borders of the USA. By all accounts, the situation regarding undocumented alien crossings and illegal narcotics smuggling remains dangerous and troubling. In the post 9/11 era, our country simply cannot tolerate illegal immigration chaos.

Therefore we request, Mr. President, that you use your Executive Authority to immediately bolster border defenses by increasing the federal law enforcement presence and, possibly, by allocating the military to assist the Border Patrol and other federal agencies in charge of controlling the borders.

We submit our names with the appreciation of your consideration.

Camp Bucca Prisoners Dig Tunnels to Escape

U.S. forces thwart major escape in southern Iraq

Wow this sounds like something out of a movie. Good thing they were caught! Link found on Lucianne.
U.S. military police Friday thwarted a massive escape attempt by suspected insurgents and terrorists from this southern Iraq Army base that houses more than 6,000 detainees when they uncovered a 600-foot tunnel the detainees had dug under their compound.
"We were very close to a very bad thing," Major Gen. William Brandenburg said Friday after troops under his command discovered the tunnel that prisoners had painstakingly dug with the help of makeshift tools. Within hours of the discovery on the first tunnel, a second tunnel of about 300 feet was detected under an adjoining compound in the camp, which holds 6,049 detainees. The elaborate escape is reminiscent of the 1994 movie, "The Shawshank Redemption," where a prisoner burrows his way out of prison.
The key difference, however, is that not one Iraq prisoner got out.

Germany Brings Big Brother To A Whole New Level!

DNA Against Doggy Droppings Current Affairs Deutsche Welle

I've heard that it can be pretty bad in Germany and France with this but good grief! I'd like to hear from some of the Hate Bush crowd who keep making different references to the United States becoming a Police State and then have them move to Germany and see what Big Brother is really like.

DNA analysis is useful in solving crimes, determining parentage and making medical advances. Now, officials in Dresden have decided it can also help get rid of a nasty nuisance littering city sidewalks.

Dresden politicians have finally had enough. They're sick of the daily obstacle course on their city's sidewalks. Tired of searching in vain for a clean spot to picknick in the park.

They're ready to employ high-tech methods to crack down on a public plague -- doggy doo.

The advisory council for a Dresden city district received resounding support for a proposal to take saliva samples from all local dogs.

Modern DNA analysis techniques would then be used to locate the dogs responsible for the offending piles, so that their owners can be punished for neglecting to poop and scoop.

The district's proposal is not yet binding, however. For it to become law, the idea has to pass a vote in the city council.

Why Not Protect The US Border

The American Thinker

Douglas Hanson believes there's no difference between military support (assist federal agencies only) and the Minutemen Project which only acts as eyes and ears to the Border Agents. This is contrary to what President Bush called the Minutemen yesterday which was vigilantes. Hanson has a pretty good argument with supporting details on different military training missions for his logic. Plus, we also have the dollars spent on extensive border control and protection provided by the US for Iraq. Why Iraq and not the US?

Wrinkles could be less than skin deep

New Scientist Breaking News - Wrinkles could be less than skin deep

Finally, an important news story for Me! They'd better get busy is all I have to say.

It is not just our bodies that become stiff in old age. Skin cells also appear to become more rigid. The discovery might just lead to new ways to rejuvenate skin.

Ok so fine! Where's the part about eliminating wrinkles?
"What we have discovered is that the epithelial cells themselves become more rigid with age," ......

When the researchers measured rigidity by poking human epithelial cells grown in a dish with the tip of an atomic force microscope, they found that after many generations of cell division, cells were two to 10 times as stiff as "younger" cells. They think the increased rigidity is due to the cells' cytoskeleton - the internal scaffolding of protein fibres - becoming more dense.

Yeah, yeah. Where's the part about what to do about the increased rigidity?

The team is already testing skin creams containing low doses of these compounds on mice, and expects results in a few months.

Get 'er done!

An Ode to Aunt Toni

I got this from this fella today.
He's my "favorite" fella!

For my fun and
wonderful Aunt Toni….
Here’s a list of
Things she’s done for me!

Every Christmas
She buys a kit,
Then we’ll spend hours workin’ on it.
Come Christmas day,
My mom and dad
are curious to see what me and Toni had.
They open it up and gasp in shock,
Then I go to my Aunt Toni
And thank her a lot.

Sometimes in the summer
We’ll take a ride on the lake
And drive around in circles
and look at the waves we make!
We’ll go back to the shore
And have a big fire and roast some s’mores!

I love my Aunt Toni
I love her a lot
Even at any age
She just hits the spot!!

Love Aaron

Marine Lieutenant Brian Donlon - Someone You Should Know

BLACKFIVE: Marine Lieutenant Brian Donlon - Someone You Should Know

What an incredible letter. Some parts are truly incredulous and I wish that it would punch many of the anti-war, peace demonstrating and Hate-Bush crowd between the eyes. But I know through experience that these types of people will just keep muttering and screaming their infantile 60's and 70's rhetoric without consideration to fact or logic. In fact, these people don't want any of this to be true, they want what Michael Moore calls "minutemen' and the MSM calls "insurgents" to be successful in defeating the US Military and the Iraqi spirit. Even though many of these people will say they support the troops, they are lying through their own self-delusion.

Here's an example of what the "minutemen" in Fallujah did to the Iraqi people as described by what the Marines found:

Covering enemy dead with ponchos as they went, they killed Muj (as they nicknamed the insurgents) in the streets or toppled buildings on top of them with mortars, artillery and aerial bombardment. They shot dogs and cats caught feasting on the dead, found the mutilated corpse of aid worker Margaret Hassan, discovered a torture chamber with full suits of human skin and refrigerated body parts right out of "Silence of the Lambs", opened a cellar with chained men who had starved to death and broke down doors to find rooms full of corpses, hands tied behind their backs, bullet holes in the back of their heads.

Father's Rights

Major Mike: Defending Your get screwed

Major Mike talks about a SEAL who I'm sure thinks he's going through the worst experience he could ever imagine (and that goes beyond any missions). He's run into the Family Court System. I know that this happens primarily to Fathers but I did have this same situation happen with a girlfriend who was the financial support for her family. However, she was also the caregiver too. Anyway, I was absolutely astounded when I read what the child support was for this SEAL for ONE child. $2,100 a month! And the ex-wife left the State and moved to Israel so he never gets to see his son.

Also mentioned in the Fox report is the fact that child support for a National Guardsman or Reservist based on civilian pay is not adjusted if the NG or Res. is activated and deployed. What?? That's ridiculous you say? What we, who have not run into the wall called Family Court, don't realize is that common sense has no place in Family Court decisions.

Now, I am going to make a statement of which I don't have the facts to back it up so take it as it is, an opinion. One of the root causes of this treatment in Family Court is the Social Work profession itself. I believe most in people who go into Social Work are themselves from dysfunctional families and therefore have skewed ideas of family, men and value systems. Extrapolate from that what you want.

So, go check out Major Mikes posting. The poor schlump of a SEAL is really getting the screws put to him.

Somebody needs to undo the mess at the U.N.

James Lileks

Nowadays when you see the words "U.N. sex scandal" in the paper, it's usually prefaced by "another."

The news is disheartening and revolting: In the Congo, U.N. peacekeepers are accused of rape and of patronizing child prostitution rings. In East Timor - we learn four years after the fact - Australian troops drew their weapons, one newspaper reports, "to protect themselves from Jordanian peacekeepers" after an Aussie "blew the whistle on other Jordanian soldiers' sexual abuse of East Timorese boys."

It's been a hard run for the United Nations. Sex scandals. The Oil for Food program, Saddam Hussein's attempt to find a Eurocrat or Russian businessman who couldn't be bribed. (He failed.)

Now if Kofi and Company could only define Terrorism they'd be all set. Actually, the UN has defined terrorists. All those Muslim Islamofacists are just peace loving religious devotees persecuted by the Terrorists of the World which would be the Israeli's and George Bush and Company (aka U.S. of A.).

Death at 'immoral' picnic in the park - The Boy Cleric is BACK!

Jihad Watch: Death at 'immoral' picnic in the park

This is a disturbing story from Robert Spencer. Looks like Al Sadr is using strategies other than politics to inject himself into the power struggle in Iraq. Does anyone in Iraq know anything more about this event? From this story it sounds like the new Iraqi Police stood by and watched.

THE students had begun to lay out their picnic in the spring sunshine when the men attacked. “There were dozens of them, armed with guns, and they poured into the park,” Ali al-Azawi, 21, the engineering student who had organised the gathering in Basra, said.

“They started shouting at us that we were immoral, that we were meeting boys and girls together and playing music and that this was against Islam.

“They began shooting in the air and people screamed. Then, with one order, they began beating us with their sticks and rifle butts.” Two students were said to have been killed.

Standing over them as the blows rained down was the man who gave the order, dressed in dark clerical garb and wearing a black turban. Ali recognised him immediately as a follower of Hojatoleslam Moqtada al-Sadr, the radical Shia cleric. Ali realised then that the armed men were members of Hojatoleslam al-Sadr’s Mehdi Army, a private militia that fought American forces last year and is now enforcing its own firebrand version of Islam.

NIMBY - Hollywood says it's ok for YOU but not for ME! News - International - Line drawn in the sand to divide stars from ordinary beach-goers

Most of this is stuff I've read or heard before but there was one quote that I found interesting.

The stars are not eager to talk about the beach battle, but many Malibu residents support their Broad Beach neighbours and complain that the public do not respect the beach.

"They treat this like a huge garbage dump," said Ron Lawrence, a retired doctor. "I’ve seen people defecate on the beaches. They wouldn’t tolerate it in the city." The coastal commission wants the "No Trespassing" signs and the guards removed.

"If they are really concerned about the public trespassing on to their property or breaking into their homes, they can do what most of us do. We lock our doors," said Linda Locklin, the access programme manager for the commission.

"Most of us live in cities and most of us have a sidewalk in front of our houses, and the public goes on that sidewalk at all hours of the day," she said. "The rest of us have to cope."

These are the same people who will defend the rights of homeless people to harass and harangue people in the city. You find the homeless do exactly the same things on city streets as the Hollywood Elites are complaining they do on the Malibu Beach! So, I say....cry me a river......

Afghanistan Pictures

The National Guard Experience

Jean Paul has some interesting pictures from Afghanistan.

Update (03/23/05): As a request from Jean-Paul I've removed his picture. He's going to try to sell the print via Ebay so if you're interested in the picture be sure to his blog to find out details if you are interested in buying the print. I also updated the link to his blog since this link is no longer working. Ok, so now Jean-Paul tried the Ebay experience and decided it wasn't for him. lol.

This is clever, funny and oh so true!! Take it in tandem with my posting on Howard Dean.

Here's a few of my favorites:
**Progressive- All those scared to death to be called a liberal, because well. . . liberals make no sense, but progressive looks and sounds better. It is a desire to make everyone else seem regressive.

**Neo Con- anything right of Socialism

**Our Brave soldiers- Those war mongering minions of the evil Bush clan; but of course we support them.

DEBKAfile - Iran Has 12 Strategic Cruise Missiles

Link from Lucianne.

The Ukrainian prosecutor-general Svyatoslav Piksun created a major international flap Friday, March 18, when he admitted to the Financial Times that 18 X-55 strategic cruise missiles, also known as Kh-55, had been “exported” - 12 to Iran and 6 to China in 2001. He could not explain how the “significant leak” of technology from the former Soviet Union’s nuclear arsenal occurred, but said the missiles had been sold without nuclear warheads.

The X-55 has a ranged of 3,000 km and is capable of carrying 200 kiloton nuclear warheads. Launched from Su-24 long-range strike aircraft in the Iranian air force, it can put Japan, all of Russia and Israel within range. Piksun’s admission is the first official confirmation of the Ukrainian missile sale that was first made
public last month by a Ukrainian parliament member.

Howard Dean: Reason Dem's Lost 2004 Race to "Brain Dead" Republicans is..... - Spreading the message

Link from Powerline.

From Hindrocket:
Howard, I think you're on to something. Please keep promoting this insight wherever you go: Americans are really dumb, and the Democrats' only problem is that they are so extraordinarily brilliant. If the Dems can just pretend to be "brain dead," like the Republicans, they will sweep to victory. That is a great strategy, Howard. Please pursue it.

WHY are you a Soldier?

365 and a Wakeup: The SAT

After reading this posting the quote that comes to my mind is: "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing".
-Albert Einstein

The dividing line between the two kingdoms is a long line of soldiers. And that is why I’m proud to call myself a soldier. Its not about a lack of options, or the size of my paycheck. Its about what kind of world I want to leave for my children if I am lucky enough to be a father.
What do you think? Do you think that all soldiers are their just for the education benefits or that all soldiers who sign up are minorities, poor and stupid?

Pssst....if you think the last sentence is the correct answer then you really need to read T6's posting!

Mexican Police Beating of US TSA Official

The stories coming out of Mexico are of increasing alarm. Not only the kidnapping of US citizens in border towns in Texas, the Syrians who came across the border, drug smuggling, shooting at American Border agents and now this overt action are alarming. The worst thing? The US State Dept and the TSA Dept are blaming the victim! Huh?

Beside the emotional trauma inflicted on him by greedy, corrupt Mexican police officers, the U.S. agent suffered serious nerve damage to his hands. To make matters worse he faces possible retaliation from his own Government. Instead of lodging a forceful protest with the Mexican Government, the U.S. State Department is trying to keep the matter quiet. TSA, rather than stand up for its people, is blaming the Agent who was so viciously attacked for causing the incident "because he left his hotel room after dinner".

High School Alters Marine Picture Due to Zero Tolerance

Marine Corps Moms: Zero tolerance? Let 'em know what you think
This is another example of educators gone totally, completely STUPID!! I am so angry about this. To me the most disturbing aspect of the insanity occurring in our public education institutions is to obliterate any semblance of common sense, patriotism and duty to your country and finally the demonization of the US as a force for good in the world.

Please go read what Marine Corps Moms has posted. And express your support.

My 15 year old daughter, Shea, out of sheer pride, took a picture of her brother to her high school to share with a teacher. Her brother, Bill, also a graduate of Douglas McKay High School in Salem, Oregon, is a US Marine and a decorated veteran of the Iraq war. He has been deployed twice and will be returning this summer for his 3rd deployment to Iraq. Shea has had the unique experience of supporting her brother during his deployments and the true realization of what war means to the families of our Marines and soldiers in harms way.

and then:
Shea proudly printed a picture of her brother and took it to school. The picture she selected is of her brother in Iraq, in combat uniform and holding a gun. Just, a typical picture of a Marine at work in a war zone. Mr. Costa asked the school administration for permission to hang the picture due to the graphic nature of the picture. He was denied, based on the fact that a gun is included in the picture. From there I’m told it was taken to the Salem-Keizer Administrative offices and it was scanned and the gun removed in order for it meet the guidelines of political correctness.

Syrians caught; in U.S. illegally

Syrians caught; in U.S. illegally

Via Lucianne. This is just what many Americans are afraid of with the lax border controls enforced today. See my posting here about this exact issue.

TUCSON - A federal grand jury Wednesday indicted two Syrian men on charges of impersonating U.S. citizens after Border Patrol agents stopped them in southern Arizona and found an undocumented Mexican immigrant {there is nothing that irritates me more than the PC term "undocumented} in their car.

According to a criminal complaint, Ala Salem Mamoud Al-Kurdi and Mohamed Tamman Nakchgandi, both citizens of Syria, were pulled over by Border Patrol agents on Feb. 18 on Arizona 86, a highway that runs through the Tohono 'odham
Nation, a vast reservation southwest of Tucson.

In the back seat of the Cadillac, driven by Kurdi, agents spotted a Mexican man who later admitted to crossing the U.S.-Mexican border illegally three days earlier, according to Border Patrol reports. Kurdi and Nakchgandi, the passenger, said they were naturalized U.S. citizens born in Syria, but agents found they were in the country illegally, according to court records. advertisement

The agents reported that a second Cadillac was spotted traveling in tandem with Kurdi's along the highway, but got away. The Mexican man later told authorities he crossed the border with five other undocumented immigrants, who were in the second car, the Border Patrol reported.

Which Privileges for Islam

Daniel Pipes: Front Page Magazine

I found this article very helpful in clarifying and listing some of the many exceptions being made for Islam in European and North American countries. Pipes distinguishes between those accomodations which can and should be made in accordance with already accepted policies or culture and those which are pushing beyond to make Islam exceptions only.

Ok to accomodate:
The key distinction is whether Muslim aspirations fit into an existing framework or not. Where they do, they can be accommodated, such as in the case of:

· Schools and universities closing for the Eid al-Adha holidays.

· Male employees permitted to wear beards in New Jersey.

· The founding of an Islamic cemetery in Tennessee.

Adherents of other minority religions may get a holiday off, wear beards, or dispose of their dead in private burial grounds – so why not Muslims?

Not ok to accomodate:
In contrast, special privileges for Islam and Muslims are unacceptable, such as:

· Setting up a government advisory board uniquely for Muslims in the United States.

· Permitting Muslim-only living quarters or events in the United States and Great Britain.

· Setting aside women-only bathing at a municipal swimming pool in France.

· Banning Hindus and Jews from a jury hearing a case about an Islamist in Great Britain.

· Changing noise laws to broadcast the adhan (call to prayer) in Hamtramck, Michigan.

Allowing a prisoner the unheard-of right to avoid strip-searches in New York State.

· Exploiting taxpayer-funded schools and airwaves to convert non-Muslims in the United States.

· Allowing students in taxpayer-funded schools to use empty classrooms for prayers in New Jersey.

· Deeming the “religious vilification” of Islam to be illegal in Australia.

Punishing anti-Islamic views with court-mandated indoctrination by an Islamist in Canada.

· Prohibiting families from sending pork or pork by-products to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq.

· Requiring that female American soldiers in Saudi Arabia wear U.S. government-issued abayas.

· Applying the “Rushdie rules” – or letting Muslims shut down criticism of Islam and Muslims.
The not ok to accomodate is pretty troubling to me. This "special treatment" only points out Muslims and creates more animosity and fear.

Pipes has more with all the appropriate links for the ok's and not ok's.

New Meaning to Bathroom Humor

Border Security Added to Bill

Washington Times

What does it take to get through the thick skull of some of these mental midgets we call US Representatives!! Apparently, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee doesn't understand the difference between Legal Immigration and Illegal Immigration. Here - let me 'splain it to you Sheila of the mental midget variety. Legal Immigration is when a person has gone through all of the bureaucratic forms and approvals to enter this country with a valid Green Card. Illegal Immigration is when a person does none of the above and crosses the US Border illegally thus breaking our US laws. For someone who is a lawbreaker and not a legal immigrant, this bill isn't about anyone being anti-immigrant, it's about protecting our country from terrorists crossing our borders illegally!

The House yesterday added to the $81.3 billion supplemental defense spending bill a provision to tighten border security, a measure criticized by Mexico but praised by some lawmakers as a way to thwart terrorism. House Republicans said the measure, which was attached to the spending bill by voice vote, would enhance national security by making it harder for terrorists to enter the country and therefore belongs in the war spending package. "American citizens have a right to know who is in their country," said Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican. But Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, said although she backs the package to support U.S. troops, the "anti immigrant" bill is "a poison pill" and should not have been attached.

I'm sick and tired of these so-called Representatives calling people who want to protect our borders anti-immigrant or racist.

The Millennium Project: Promoting World Poverty

Star Parker: Philanthropy is the best foreign aid

Star says it all so well. These people who purport to want to alleviate poverty through government spending (they are really just socialists in sheeps clothing) are no different than the Democrats of the 1960's who were going to alleviate poverty in the US through Welfare. Gee - we all know how well that worked out huh? I can't keep all these people out of my pockets fast enough. It's like having an octopus haranguing me.

Wal-Mart Ethics Code Angers Germans

Wal-Mart Ethics Code Angers Germans Germany Deutsche Welle

Those awful Americans and their antiquated ideals of ethics. The Nerve!

The German subsidiary of the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart, has again infuriated employees, this time over policies that workers believe interfere with their private lives and force them to spy on colleagues.

Often mistrusted for its American corporate culture, the German subsidiary of Wal-Mart has once again stuck its foot in it. Employees of the 92-store discount chain received a moral lecture along with their February paychecks: a code of ethics employees must follow or face termination, the Financial Times Deutschland reported Tuesday.

The code forbids Wal-Mart employees from accepting presents from suppliers, dictates that employees may not fall in love with a colleague in a position of influence and requires workers to report colleagues immediately "if they observe that they have broken the rules." Non-compliance of the rules can lead to termination.

Translation problems
The German management of the company said they adopted the code after increasing requests by their American counterparts to do so. Still, representatives of employees say they will fight the code through the courts. The company declined comment.

Employee's rights expert Manfred Confurius told the Financial Times Deutschland that US employees face more concrete and stronger restrictions, something that doesn't always transfer well to German work culture.

"Such ethic codes should, in general, be voluntary," he said.

Why this is just awful. Imagine that? Requiring employees to report possible theft by another employee. Isn't that what you would normally expect in an American company? I don't know about you but that's what I would expect.

What can you say but "oh those wacky Germans" or how about the decline of ethics in Europe has reached it's lowpoint. This could be why France, Germany and most of the UN saw nothing wrong with the bribery, sale of weapons to Saddam and complicity with Saddam entrenched the European countries. Well, as we all know, (~snark alert~) the Arab street can't really handle democracy anyway so the Euro's may as well support dictators (ala Saddam and al).

Judge in AZ Denies "teeth" of Prop 200 to Lawmakers

Judge won't expand Prop. 200

I find this storm on illegal immigrants in Arizona quite interesting. I think many states are watching this unfold. Unfortunately, too many judges think it's their job to deny the people their right to make laws. Even when the laws have not been struck down by the courts the Governor drags her feet in enacting the laws approved by Prop 200. Indeed, this is a very interesting scenario playing out which transcends party lines for citizens. Even the Arizona Public shows it bias in the headline. The intent of Prop 200 is exactly what the Judge is denying so there's no expansion occurring here.

The legislation would go far beyond the legal interpretation of Proposition 200, the anti-illegal immigration measure approved by voters in November. Attorney General Terry Goddard has concluded that it would apply only to welfare benefits.

In his opinion, Goddard concluded that undocumented immigrants could receive free school lunches, immunizations and library cards without being referred to immigration authorities. Randy Pullen, a key supporter of Proposition 200, challenged the definition in court.

Pullen believes Proposition 200 should apply to an assortment of public benefits, such as public housing, food assistance, college education and employment benefits.

"Regardless of what the courts say, the attorney general and the governor are dragging their feet and are trying to minimize the implementation of Prop. 200 as much as they can," Pullen said Monday.

You think the marriage radicals have gone too far? You ain't seen nothin' yet.

Jeff Jacoby: The marriage newspeak

For all of those out there who think that same sex marriage is no big deal. Just remember the law of unintended consequences. The same sex marriage lobby has learnt their lessons well from the pro-abortionists. Incrementalism and politically correct speech along with a pinch of patience yields amazing results.

Jeff Jacoby omens the future:

What is underway here is not simply a tweaking of legal terminology. The crusade for same-sex marriage has never been aimed merely at adjusting the familiar boundaries of married life to make it more inclusive. The real target is the significance of marriage itself -- the idea, fundamental to human happiness and all successful societies, that the purpose of marriage is to bring men and women together for their mutual welfare and for the protection and well-being of any children they create or adopt. It is that deeply ingrained belief that the marriage radicals are determined to do away with. One purpose of the official marriage Newspeak is to make such thoughts increasingly unthinkable.

My views on this may sound reactionary to some of you but as one of the formerly brainwashed legions by the NARAL/Feminist Abortionists, I will always be suspect of the motives or agendas of any left wing groups.

Who Is Dotty Lynch?

Media Monitor - Who Is Dotty Lynch?

Well I'm sure all of you are on edge waiting to find out just who Dotty Lynch would be:

Speaking of political operatives, did you know that Dotty Lynch is a self-described liberal who worked as a pollster for Democratic candidates and liberal causes from 1972 until 1985? Did you know that in 1984, by her own admission, she was an "ardent feminist?" Did you know that in 1984, by her own admission, she was "very involved" in the successful effort to get a woman, Geraldine Ferraro, on the Democratic ticket?

But she is also:
Dotty Lynch, political editor of CBS News, thought she had the answer. Her column ran under the intriguing headline, "Rove-Gannon Connection?" That's a reference to top Bush White House aide Karl Rove.

Ironically, despite the Lynch offering, Rove-Gannon connection consisted of Rove having once talked to GOPUSA, which owns Talon News, which employed Gannon. But there's more. Gannon had written stories for Talon News that were credited with playing a role in the defeat of former Democratic Senate leader Tom Daschle by John Thune. And Thune's campaign manager was "'an old political crony' of Rove's," Lynch revealed. If you're still having trouble understanding the connection between Gannon and Rove, join the crowd. There is none.

But CBS thought it was worthwhile to push this dubious link. The original headline over the Lynch piece was, "Karl Rove's Warning to GOP." It was changed to "Rove-Gannon Link?" because of the desire by the mainstream media to pump life into the Gannongate conspiracy theories circulating on the left-wing blogs. One of those bloggers was immediately out with the following headline: "CBS Speculates that Karl Rove was Jeff Gannon's contact inside the White House…"

I can't believe the furor over this Gannon deal. I mean you've got Tim Russert (formerly worked for Democrat Senator), you've got George Stephanalpolis (former speech writer for Clinton) and too many other former employees of Democrat politicians working as "Journalists" or anchors. But no one questions their legitimacy. Wasn't it Susan Molari who was going to do a political show and the MSM went wild a few years ago. How could she do this because well, she would be a partison and why would she be a partison? Because she was a Republican! The Democrats need to get over this rash of baby screaming and grow up.

Oh Darn - too late. I missed the holiday!

Advice from LtCol North to John Bolton

Oliver North: Misunderestimation

I get a kick out of Ollie's snarky advice to John Bolton on Bolton's upcoming Senate Confirmation hearing. There's no mincing of words here:

First, recognize that the Senate Libs really do hate your guts.
Second, remember, you know a lot more about the important issues than they do.
Third, it's the sex thing, John. If you want to see the Libs on the raised dais squirm, bring up the sexual malfeasance that infects every level of the United Nations.
call 'em as you see 'em, John. The bloated big-wigs attacking you aren't used to plain English.
Fifth, Kofi's corruption. Lots of the guys who don't want you at the UN love to be seen on the cocktail circuit with their pal Kofi Annan.
Sixth, "Eurocrats" in our Senate will want to know your views on giving Germany a permanent seat - and a "veto" - on the Security Council. Counter by suggesting....a better option would be to give the French "seat" on the Security Council to the EU...

Finally, remember that the guys trying to peel your hide are "tax and spend" experts. Ask 'em how the UN's madcap idea of taxing American citizens under their so-called "Millennium Development Goals" will go down with their constituents.

A Story from a Marine and A Tiny Survivor

Marine Corps Moms: Healing Wounds

....As anybody who has done it will tell you, traveling by helicopter in the Iraqi theater involves a lot of waiting around. Having your flight canceled, or getting bumped from the ones that are running, is just a fact of life here.

It was during one of these long waits that I came across this boy and heard his story. I first noticed him as I walked through the terminal. He was trying to sit up on a cot where he had been sleeping. But both his arms from the elbows down were heavily bandaged, and he couldn’t manage it on his own. As I walked over to help, an American contractor, who was an interpreter, got there first and helped the boy sit up.

I asked the man what had happened to the boy; though he didn’t know all the details, he told me what he had heard. The boy’s father had worked for coalition forces. Insurgents from their town got wind of this and tried to kill him and his family by burning their house down.

Fortunately, everyone escaped, but the boy suffered bad burns on both of his arms. He was treated by American doctors and was awaiting a flight to receive further treatment at another hospital.

Go to Marine Corps Moms for the rest of the story.

The hubris of Giuliana Sgrena

Jack Kelly:

Kelly picks up a couple great quotes/anecdotes on Sgrena:

Dutch journalist Harald Doornbos rode in the airplane to Baghdad with her. "Be careful not to get kidnapped," Doornbos warned Sgrena. "You don't understand the situation," she responded, according to Doornbos' account last week in Nederlands Dagblad. (Excerpts were translated into English and posted on a Dutch writer's Web blog.) "The Iraqis only kidnap American sympathizers. The enemies of the Americans have nothing to fear."

Sgrena left her hotel the morning of Feb. 4 to interview refugees from Fallujah, the resistance stronghold captured by U.S. Marines in November. The interviews didn't go well. "The refugees ... would not listen to me," she said. "I had in front of me the accurate confirmation of the analysis of what the Iraqi society had become as a result of the war and they would throw their truth in my face."

What group does this sound like?
Sgrena's feelings were hurt that the refugees could be so curt to her: "I who had risked everything, challenging the Italian government who didn't want journalists to reach Iraq and the Americans who don't want our work to be witnessed of what really became of that country with the war and notwithstanding that which they call elections." (Maybe it reads better in Italian, or maybe she just can't write worth a damn.)
Sounds to me like Neo-Socs (Democrat Party of today) to me. But I've come to help you and you won't listen to my truth. Your truth doesn't matter. You are a bunch of ingrates for not embracing my lies!
This is what you get when you play with fire!
She got nabbed on her way back to her hotel. Sgrena told her captors she was on their side, and suggested they kidnap an American soldier instead. But the U.S. government doesn't pay ransoms.
Personally, I'm pretty disgusted with both the Italian government and the Phillippine government. They funding the terrorists who kill Americans and their own countrymen working or deployed to Iraq. I expect this from France but not the other two.

Blogads: reader survey for blog advertising.

Some interesting results from the Blogads Survey. I got an auto email from Michelle Malkin and took the survey. Don't remember taking it last year. But from a selling perspective there's some interesting results which I think are contrary to notions held by most of the newspaper articles I've read.

Age Demographics: Last year, 61% of responding blog readers were over 30 years old. This year, 75% are over 30 years old.
Income Demographics: Last year, 40% had family incomes greater than $90,000. This year, 43% exceed that figure.
Gender Demographics: Last year, 79% were men. This year, 75% are men.
Buying Patterns: Almost the same number (44%) spend more than $500 for air tickets. 86% purchased music online, last year and

The weird stuff in Iraq

In Iraq for 365:desert-smink

Smink answers a question about some of the weird things about Iraq. When you get used to a place, things that are out of the ordinary for normally become ordinary. He's got some funny anecdotes about weird stuff.

Obsession with Tina Turner: I saw more Tina Turner albums in Iraqi homes than I ever have in my life. And I have no idea why. It was just weird. I mean, who likes Tina Turner?

Iraq Patrol

A Day In Iraq: The Runner

Michael tells us about a night patrol mission. I always wondered in detail what this was like. It's kind of like doing a ride along with the Police. It can be boring, dangerous and exciting. One of my friends was in Iraq for the elections, doing patrols. He's already been there for a year so this wasn't anything new. But he had written to me how tense and nerve racking the patrols were around the time of the elections. Here is what he wrote to me about it: Things are still tense--especially on the day before the election and election day. This is when I did my last 2 patrols. Man, they were hard and full of incidents--everyone is okay [no WIA or KIA]. My ass is so puckered still that it will take another week to pull out the seat cushion from my humvee. But this still doesn't tell you what exactly makes it so tense. Michael's details bring it to life.

Attack of the Blogs

Mudville Gazette

Greyhawk talks about the involvement of bloggers in a number of different events throughout the last year. MSM journalists seem to think bloggers (especially conservative and milbloggers) are out to take down people like Eason Jordan, when the reality was bloggers were trying to get to the TRUTH. Alas, MSM journalists don't seem to 'get' the goal of 'TRUTH'. Unfortunately, with Eason Jordon, the truth never was revealed. But there are other examples where bloggers did expose the truth. I had forgotten some of the events referenced by GH but he shows bloggers aren't out there to spin for 'their' side. It's truth seeking which is the focal point!

Magical Trevor

This is a WARNING, Magical Trevor will infect your brain never to leave. He will replay and replay in your head!! Andrew is responsible for finding Trevor and infecting others.

Episode One
Episode Two

For those who actually do go to visit Trevor here's the antidote:

Like many other neurotics, I suffer from recurring song stuckage. Songs get stuck in my head. There is no cure for song stuckage, or "earworm" — that's what a University of Cincinnati marketing professor has called it. While you can't cure earworm, you can treat it.

A weapon that works for me sometimes, (except on The Lion Sleeps Tonight, which apparently fell to earth from Krypton) is lyric substitution.

See what lyric substitution can do for the Tears for Fears song, Everybody Wants to Rule the World:

Drum roll: "Everybody wants to fool with Earl."When you do such as that to a song, the tune that seemed fixed in orbit around your brain will wobble on its axis. It's a fairly dependable song-stuckage killer.

The Sarbanes-Oxley tax

Alan Reynolds -

For those of you who aren't in Accounting or Finance this is probably a big huge yawn. BUT - this costs all of us money. For all Public corporations the cost of this stupid attempt by Congress to legislate criminal behavior has increased business costs for audits by at least a third if not double. I've been told by many in my field no matter what to stay away from public businesses today for financial/accounting work. For myself I'm done working 80 hour work weeks for a corporation so that's a no brainer. I knew when I heard Barbara Boxer playing inquisitor to one of the CFO's during the committee hearing that business was going to be hurting. She asked this fellow in a very indignant tone: " just why aren't the numbers the same between your financial report and the tax returns. I find this highly disturbing. (not an exact quote). "

So, Barbara dumb as a box of rocks Boxer (as Hugh Hewitt calls her) doesn't know the freakin' difference between book financials and tax financials. Just 'ffing great! She's going to be advocating for laws on corporate financial accountability and she's an idiot.

Well, that's Sarbanes-Oxley - a monster.

Nearly half the pages of Sarbanes-Oxley were devoted to creating a new Public Company Accounting Oversight Board to do what the SEC already had the authority and responsibility to do. The novelty is that, unlike the SEC, this uniquely well-paid board must be dominated by people with no expertise in accounting. The only clear result, documented by The Washington Post in August 2003, has been that many overburdened mid-sized accounting firms simply stopped auditing public companies.

Section 440 greatly increased reporting requirements for publicly traded firms, at a cost estimated at roughly $2 million dollars on average, and more for larger firms ($30 million at G.E.). When added to the increased expense of insuring officers and directors, the accounting cost of complying with Sarbanes-Oxley has made it far more attractive to be a privately held company, rather than a company listed on any U.S. stock exchange.

Sarbanes-Oxley has proven harmful to the U.S. economy, and to the value of stocks still listed on U.S. exchanges, because it greatly increases the costs and risks of doing business as a publicly traded U.S. corporation and it increases the risks of serving as a director or officer. Sarbanes-Oxley has essentially the same effect as a large but unpredictable increase in corporate taxes. Congress must at least lighten the heavy load of this ill-considered regulatory tax, assuming insufficient humility and courage to repeal it. Even in politics it is generally wiser to admit mistakes and fix them than to fall into the familiar bad habit of assuming that good intentions excuse bad results.

Awwww. Now I feel better. Got that growing anger off the list!

For anyone who questions the procedures used at the checkpoint with the Italian Anti-American Hating "Journalist" should read this posting from Major Mike. Ex-Marine Alleges Saddam Story was Fabricated

The Neoconservative: Ex-Marine Alleges Saddam Story was Fabricated

For anyone whose seen this story about the capture of Saddam by this Ex-Marine (thought it was always former or retired and never Ex?) as you may have guessed it's a fake or he's a fake. Saw the link from Wes Roth to the Neocon.

His story is a load of bull. Saddam was captured by Task Force 121, which is composed mainly of Delta Force (more information available here). No marines participated in the capture of Saddam Hussein. He's just another person looking to make a quick buck.

Second, I tried searching the Marine Locator on Marine Online, this guy has no account (something that's been required for a few years now).

Third, I tried searching the Marine Corps Uniform Board tool for looking up who has been approved for a Combat Action Ribbon (something he would have received had he, you know, ever been shot at or shot at someone), his
name does not show up (tool located here:

Fourth, I looked up who was killed around that time here: and couldn't find either anyone of Sudanese descent, nor any Marines (goes back to my first point) killed around that time.

This guy is making it up.

AZ - House English measure still going

I wish a few other states would take a hint from this. The good part is AZ has already been down this road before, having a previous Proposal struck down by the courts they have come back with a proposal which they think is court proof. The states print a boat load of documents in multiple languages to accomodate immigrants. I know MN has multiple languages for most documents. This costs alot of taxpayer dollars. By doing this the states are promoting multilanguage states. Immigrants have to learn English to make their way through US society to be successful. I know my grandmother spoke broken English til she died but my grandfather learned English and my Dad and his sisters all grew up speaking English, not Italian. This is not the situation today. But with my Dad's family, they had no choice, that's how it was done. But not today.

Under the measure, documents necessary for international trade, for tourism and to protect the public's health and safety would not be affected.

Spanish-language documents printed by prison and health officials including immunization, childhood lead poisoning prevention, sexually transmitted diseases, prison orientation handbooks and sanitation signs could be exempted.

Similarly, it would not affect people conducting private business.

Documents produced in Spanish such as lottery advertising, automobile insurance premium comparisons and the Spanish-language fliers Phoenix attached to 696 water bills at the request of residents would be banned. Phoenix has 428,626 water users, city officials said.

On Tuesday, Pearce successfully changed the measure to include that election ballots be printed only in English. Democrats challenged the constitutionality of such an amendment.

Rep. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, argued that printing ballots only in English violates the requirements of the federal Voting Rights Act.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

News of the Weird and Demented

Man charged with assault on sheep - York Daily Record

I don't think I truly believed stories like this until I read this!

Somebody was making nighttime visits to farmer Terry Patterson's sheep barn in the 600 block of Big Mount Road in Paradise Township, police said. Patterson told police he saw the evidence of several sexual assaults on his sheep, but never the intruder.

So he installed an alarm and intercom system.

It sounded about 3 a.m. Tuesday. Patterson went to the barn while his wife, Cindy, called 911. Patterson told Northern York County Regional Police he peered in the barn window and saw a man assaulting a sheep, according to an arrest affidavit filed in District Justice Gerald Shoemaker's office.

Bruce Charles Englar, 53, of the 4600 block of Bentz Road in North Codorus Township, is charged with felony burglary for entering a building with the intention of committing a crime, namely, having sexual intercourse with a sheep.

Officer Patrick Gartrell of Northern Regional Police was patrolling nearby when 911 dispatched him to the Pattersons' home. He heard the farmer yelling in the barn, telling someone to stop. The officer ran toward a man dressed in black and ordered him to stop and put up his hands. "I found baler's twine in Englar's back pocket, matching the twine that was hanging in the barn," Gartrell wrote in the affidavit. Police allege the twine was to be used to secure the sheep for sexual intercourse.

All I can say is ewwwwwwww!

365 and a Wakeup

365 and a Wakeup

Here's new milbogger in Baghdad. He's got a way with words and does a pretty good job with the camera too.

Today a thunderstorm rumbled through Baghdad and showered the FOB with gumball size hail. A couple of the troops armored up and waded into the storm, reveling in the raw display of nature’s power. The fat frozen raindrops scuttled
off the armor plates like miniature billiards, sheathing the troops in the open with what looked like icy halos. It was as surreal an experience as any I had experienced here in Iraq. So much for the desert being as dry as a bone. Iraq has turned out to be a lot different from my expectations, and the differences run far deeper then the climate.

Why the Military Doesn't Trust the Media

This is an outstanding writeup on why members of the US Military are so distrustful of the Media. This is part II and it's long but stick with it, he's got great examples to backup his assertions.
Why does the typical serviceman feel such contempt and distrust for the press as an institution? How did we come to this state of affairs? I plan to discuss that question, and, along the way, I'll touch on a few recent and not so recent stories to illustrate some of why I think the gulf between journalist and soldiers has become impassable in the 21st century. One disclaimer - I'm addressing trends and majorities here - I don't think that the press (or for that matter, "the military") is as monolithic as they appear here.
